Molly plays the role of Gemini in this workshop of The Joining, a new opera by Isaac Schankler with libretto by Aiden Feltkamp, presented by Synchromy.

The Joining is a speculative fiction opera exploring the collision of two civilizations — the Underland and the Overland. Frem, an Underlander technician and inventor, must journey to the prosperous Overland to seek help with an impending famine. The Overlanders take an interest in Frem’s golem Tachlis, an artificial lifeform that is more than it first appears.

Drawing from Jewish folklore, the opera uses the golem to explore our relationship with technology, and how it can make us complicit in exploitation, oppression, and dehumanization.

This semi-staged workshop concert allows audience members to engage directly with the work through feedback forms, a live feedback session, or during the reception following the event.
